Investment in Character
Anyone can talk about making a difference in the lives of young people - but scouting puts words in to action.
Words like, HONOR, DUTY, LEADERSHIP and SERVICE.
These words translate into actions like achieveing academic success, building self-condfidence and creating opportunities that many kids can't get anywhere else. It all starts with our values. We have lived by these words for more than 100 years.
Look what our scouts have done in a year:
- 140 Scouts earned the rank of Eagle
- Boy Scouting's Highest Award
- 250 Scouts earned the Arrow of Light Award
- Cub Scouting's Highest Award
- 5,817 Scouts experienced a first rate summer and event camping experience
- 2,642 Scouts advanced a rank
- 3,616 Merit Badges were earned
- 10,365 Hours of cleaning, mucking, helping, cooking, rebuilding by Scouts for Flood Relief in our communities.
WHY IT MATTERS?
The Investment in Character Campaign keeps Scouting an affordable, effective youth development program. It funds the council's infrastructure, or general operating portion of the budget, and provides a support system for youth with adult volunteers that partner with the Istrouma Area Council.
WHO CAN HELP?
We are all asked to give in some way to help a Scout. Some can help by teaching a skill. Some are asked to help from behind the scenes. Some asked to help financially. Remember you can double your gift by having your employer match your gift. Will your company match your gift?
Our friends from LSU have developed a search so you can see if your company is a matching gift company. Check and see. http://www.matchinggift.com/lsu
