Istrouma Area Council - Wood Badge Course S1-211-18

The Istrouma Area Council will once again offer a Wood Badge course in the Spring of 2018. This training is a participant-friendly course for Scout Leaders of all programs: Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Venturing, Exploring and Varsity Scouts. It will provide the skills that will help you become a more effective leader. It will also help you put together high-performance teams to make your Den and Pack grow, to make your Boy Scout Troop go further, and to take your Venturing Crew to the next peak.

Wood Badge has two parts. The first consists of two 3-day weekends of practical experience where you will learn skills and concepts that underscore the five Themes of Wood Badge: Bringing the Vision to Life, Models for Success, Tools of the Trade, Leading to Make a Difference, and Living the Values. In the second part of the course, you will create a “ticket” to put those skills into action. You will be awarded Wood Badge Beads as well as a Woggle and Neckerchief upon successful completion of your ticket.

The cost of the course is $275.00. This fee includes meals, two activity t-shirts, and program materials. A deposit of $100.00 along with this application will secure your spot in our Spring 2018 course. Space is limited! Applications will be accepted on a first come, first served basis. All fees are due in full by Monday, January 22, 2018. After January 22, 2018, a $25.00 late fee will apply. Wood badge camperships are available on as needed basses contact in writing the course leadership for an application. Not all applicants are guarantied assistants.

Wood Badge Training requires two FULL 3-day weekends:

1st Course Weekend: February 23-25, 2018 . Friday, 7:30 a.m. until Sunday, late afternoon at Avondale Scout Reservation

2nd Course Weekend: March 16-18, 2018. Friday, 7:00 a.m. until Sunday, late afternoon at Avondale Scout Reservation

Attendance at all sessions on both weekends is required. Your patrol will also set two patrol meetings at the group’s convenience between the first and second weekends. Attendance at these patrol meetings is also required. An Annual Health and Medical Record Form (part A, B, & C) is required for the course.

Candidates must be trained for their program and position (i.e. must have completed Fast Start, This is Scouting, Position Specific, and Youth Protection). Introduction to Outdoor Leadership Skills (IOLS), while required for Scoutmasters and Assistant Scoutmasters, is recommended for all others. Cub Scout Leader Outdoor Training (BALOO and IOLSW or OWLS) is recommended but not required for Cub Scout Leaders.
