ANNOUNCING: The DONALD E. PARK MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND for 2019

WHAT: The Donald E. Park Memorial Scholarship, provides through the continuing gifts of friend and family, will cover the tuition for up to four experienced adult leaders to attend a Philmont Leadership Training Conference in 2019. The selected training must focus on skills for adult leaders working directly within a Cub Scout or Scout Unit:

SELECTED 2019 Philmont Training Center Course:

Starting, Sustaining and Growing Units                                                                                           June 9-15, 2019

Leading a New Troop                                                                                                                          June 16-22, 2019

STEM-Tactic Scouting: Inspiration, Imagination, Innovation                                                       July 7-13, 2019

Training for Trainers: Fundamentals, EDGE, & More                                                                   July 21-27, 2019

WHO: Open to experienced unit leaders who work directly with Istrouma Area Council youth within a Cub Scout or Scout Unit.  Applications must have a minimum of two years of experience as a Den Leader, Assistant Cubmaster, Cubmaster, Assistant Scoutmaster, or Scoutmaster.  Additionally, applicants should have previously completed appropriate Cub Scout or Scout basic leader training opportunities within the Council. (if an individual has benefited from this scholarship within the last 5 years you will not qualify)

SELECTION CRITERIA: Applications must demonstrate an ongoing commitment and significant direct involvement with their Cub Scout or Scout unit and must receive a recommendation from their Charter Organization representative.  Each recipient must be willing to share what he/she has learned at Philmont Conference with other unit leaders within the Council during local training opportunities. (i.e. Scouting University, etc.). To provide the most benefit, only one recipient may come from any single unit.  Financial need may also be considered during the selection process, but those with severe financial need are encouraged to read the additional information below prior to applying.

ADDITIONAL CONSIDERATION: This scholarship covers the TUITION for a Philmont Leadership Training Conference (Currently $555), but travel expenses (which can be significant) are NOT included.  Application must demonstrate an ability to devote the time required to attend a conference as well as an ability to travel to and from conference.
