2019 Kayak Fishing

Kayak fishing will be on all three lakes, there will be no shore fishing. Catch and Release. Kayak and fishing gear not provided. 75 kayaks with a maximum of 25 per lake.

FISHING LOCATION: The tournament will take place on Avondale Scout Reservation (ASR) on one of the three lakes on site. Each participant will be assigned to 1 of 3 lakes by random drawing. ASR is located about an hour north of Baton Rouge at 14433 LA Hwy 10, Clinton, LA 70722.
TIME: The official time to start fishing is 6:30 AM. You may launch and stage in the immediate area of the launch site, but you are not allowed to cast before 6:30 AM. You may launch later than 6:30 AM. Be courteous and safe when leaving the lake shore. A horn will blow signifying the start of official fishing. A horn will sound again at 3:00pm at the end of the event. All participants should stop casting and make their way to their launch site for final weight in.
WEIGH-IN: Each lake will have a weigh-in station; tournament staff will direct you to that station. You can weigh-in fish any time during the day or keep your fish till the close of fishing. Records will be kept and you can weigh-in as many fish as you like. Weigh-in fish at any time to keep them fit for release.
AWARDS: There will be 5 trophies award. For each lake, the heaviest total weight of up to 3 Largemouth bass wins that lake’s award (3 trophies). The biggest bass taken during the tournament will win Big Bass. The “Avondale Slam Award” goes to combined aggregate weight of 1 bluegill (any species of sunfish except crappie); 1 largemouth bass and 1 crappie- all three fish must be caught for eligibility for this award.
VESSEL RESTRICTIONS: Kayaks, tandem kayaks, canoes, pirogues, and paddleboards are allowed. Your craft must be human powered either by paddle or peddle. Trolling motors, sails, or gas engines are not allowed. No wade fishing is allowed. Depth finders / fish finders are allowed.
PFD REQUIREMENT: U.S. Coast Guard approved PFD must always be worn while in the kayak, launching and recovering your vessel. Failure to comply with this rule could result in disqualification from the tournament.
COURTESY: Do your best not to disturb someone else’s fishing by crowding or noise. Respect others and treat them as you would want to be treated while fishing.
BAITS: All legal baits are legal to use. You may use live bait but do not release any live fish not caught on site into the lakes.
FISH REGULATIONS: Please follow all relevant state fishing regulations. This is a Catch and Release tournament. Weigh-in fish at any time to keep them fit for release.
You may not give fish to another fisherman. Youths should hook and reel in their own fish. A parent/guardian may assist in the netting of the fish and may handle the fish once it is netted.
Vessels with more than 1 person are fishing individually and not as a team. They should have the ability to keep the catch separated.
Tentative Schedule
4:00pm - arrival at camp starts
5:00am – breakfast
5:30am – lake drawings
6:30am – fishing commences
12:00pm – lunch
3:00pm – fishing concludes
4:30pm – awards & dinner

CAMP SPONSOR - $500.00
Sponsor a Boy Scout’s Camp experience for the next summer! This sponsorship covers the actual cost for one camper to attend Avondale Scout Reservation for one week. A Special Banner will be displayed recognizing the individuals/companies that sponsor a Camper.
Receives 1 fishing spot in the event, Special Recognition as the Lunch Sponsor, and receives company logo on one of the three fishing lake
