2019 Kayak Fishing

FISHING LOCATION: The tournament will take place on the public waters of Lake Pontchartrain and its tributaries. We will have lunch and weigh in at the Lake Pontchartrain Basin Maritime Museum 133 Mabel Drive Madisonville, LA.


TIME: The official time to start fishing is 12:30 pm. You may launch and stage in the immediate area of the launch site, but you are not allowed to cast before 12:30 pm. You may launch later than 12:30 pm. Be courteous and safe when leaving the launch site. A horn will blow signifying the start of official fishing.


WEIGH-IN: As kayaks dock for weigh in they will be registered to have their fish weighed. At 6pm, if a kayak has not docked their fish will not be weighed in. You may keep or release all of your fish.


AWARDS: A single fish will be allowed to win only one category. An individual angler can submit up to 4 fish – one of each species to enter the slam category and an additional redfish.


CAJUN SLAM STRINGER: $100 to the heaviest stringer consisting of:
One redfish that must be 16” or longer and UNDER 27”
One speckled trout that must be 12” or longer AND
One flounder that must be 11” or longer


BIGGEST REDFISH: Heaviest redfish that is 16″ or longer AND that is LESS than 27″ long. Money will be awarded for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd heaviest Redfish. This prize will be based on the number of entrants. 0 - 25 fisherman 1st - $100; 2nd - $85 and 3rd - Free entry to next year’s tournament; 26 - 50 fisherman: 1st - $250; 2nd - $150, 3rd – 100; 51 - 75 fisherman 1st - $300, 2nd - 175, 3rd - $125.


VESSEL RESTRICTIONS: Kayaks, tandem kayaks, canoes, pirogues, and paddleboards are allowed. Your craft must be human powered either by paddle or peddle. Trolling motors, sails, or gas engines are not allowed. No wade fishing is allowed. Depth finders / fish finders are allowed.


PFD REQUIREMENT: U.S. Coast Guard approved PFD must always be worn while in the kayak, launching and recovering your vessel. Failure to comply with this rule will result in disqualification from the tournament.


COURTESY: Do your best not to disturb someone else’s fishing by crowding or noise. Respect others and treat them as you would want to be treated while fishing.


BAITS: All legal baits are legal to use. You may use live bait but do not release any live fish not caught on site into the lakes.


FISH REGULATIONS: Please follow all relevant state fishing regulations. No redfish over 27 inches will be allowed to weight in. You may not give fish to another fisherman. Vessels with more than 1 person are fishing individually and not as a team. They should have the ability to keep the catch separated. Again, Invitational is open to those 18+ years of age only.

Sponsor a Boy Scout’s Camp experience for the next summer! This sponsorship covers the actual cost for one camper to attend Avondale Scout Reservation for one week. A Special Banner will be displayed recognizing the individuals/companies that sponsor a Camper.
SPECKLED TROUT SPONSOR - $1,200
Receives 1 fishing spot in the event, Special Recognition as the Lunch Sponsor, and receives company logo on A Crab Pot float
CRAPPIE SPONSOR - $2,000
Receives 2 fishing spots in the event, name/logo on two Crab Pot floats, Special Recognition as the Awards Banquet Sponsor and name/logo on the Events banner.
RED FISH TITLE SPONSOR - $5,000
Receives 3 fishing spots in the event, name on all printed materials as the Major Sponsor of the event including fishing gift for fishermen, three Crab Pot floats, Beverage Sponsor Sign, Welcome to event signage, Ability to display Company Banner/Signage. Website recognition.
